OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY OR OCT

The Optipol Revo OCT is the latest in eye imaging technology. This sophisticated instrument sees what the camera does not see. It’s like looking behind the photograph to see what lies underneath. The OCT uses light waves to take microscopic 3D images of the retina, the light sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. The OCT captures a cross-sectional view of the individual layers allowing us to see changes occurring within the tissue. Computerized analysis enable detection and monitoring of a number of eye conditions including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetes. Our instrument also has the capability to see the anterior structures including the cornea and iris. This allows assessment of  the drainage angle in closed angle glaucoma and corneal abnormalities including keratoconus. It also allows us to see contact lenses on the cornea so we are able to more accurately assess the fitting of speciality contact lenses particularly in individuals with keratoconus. The OCT procedure is painless and is entirely safe.

NON-CONTACT TONOMETRY

A quick and painless test which puffs a small amount of air onto the eye. Used to measure the pressure inside the eye. Helps us to detect glaucoma.

A powerful computerised test that maps defects in you peripheral vision. It checks the heath of the optic nerve all the way back to the visual cortex in the brain. It is extremely accurate in detecting damage caused by glaucoma.

MEDMONT CORNEAL TOPOGRAPHER

A specialised instrument that maps the surface of the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped window of the eye, providing a 3-dimensional topographical map just like the geographical map showing the hills and valleys of a country. Used in the diagnosis and management of corneal conditions especially keratoconus. It also aids in the custom designing of speciality contact lenses and the lenses used in orthokeratology, and the management of patients who are considering or have undergone laser refractive surgery.

MPOD

Short for macular pigment optical density analyser. A powerful computerised test that actually measures the level of pigment in the central retina. Our macular pigment protects the macula from aging by filtering out harmful blue light and mopping up free radicals. If your pigment levels are low you are more at risk of developing age-related macular degeneration. We can rebuild your macula pigment levels back to a safe level by putting you on a course of a special anti-oxidant formula.
